Helping skilled coaches to build a business that reflects their passion and knowledge.

You're good at the work. It's the business around it that's grinding you down. Arête rebuilds it around how you actually operate, so you get a business you enjoy running.

WHEN KNOWING WHAT TO DO ISN'T THE PROBLEM

You can know exactly what to do and still find yourself unable to do it consistently.

  • A client struggling feels like it's about you, so you give more than the service asks for

  • A slow month makes normal business decisions feel risky

  • High standards keep every task and every outcome attached to you

  • Another coach doing well changes how you feel about your own progress

  • You know the next move but can't make it feel safe enough to repeat

  • You stay in preparing and refining, because being properly seen feels worse than being unfinished

None of this means you lack ambition or discipline. They're patterns, and patterns can be changed.

You may already understand content, delivery, sales and client results. But that knowledge becomes harder to express when ordinary business behaviours begin to carry a psychological cost.

It's not what you know.
It's how and when you use it that matters.

Capability is what you've got. Knowledge, judgement, skill, experience. Expression is how much of it you can use when money, visibility, responsibility or your own identity are in the mix. The work sits in the gap between the two.

THE CAPABILITY-EXPRESSION GAP

AWARENESS

Name the behaviour, what sets it off, and what it costs. Without turning it into a character flaw.

UNDERSTANDING

Work out what it's protecting you from, and why it made sense in the first place.

RESOLUTION

Change what keeps the old response feeling necessary.

EXPRESSION

Turn that into decisions, boundaries and how you actually run the business.

THE PRINCIPLE

FREEDOM PRECEDES PERFORMANCE

The point isn't to care less, drop your standards, or feel calm before you act.

It's to have enough room that your decisions come from what's actually true and what you actually want, rather than from threat or reassurance.

Think clearly. Act freely. Perform consistently.

A GUIDED FIVE-MINUTE REVIEW FOR ONLINE COACHES

You built the business for a reason. Is it still doing that?

Life By Design helps you compare where you consciously want your energy to go with where it is actually going. It then identifies the business-pressure pattern that may be shaping the difference.

From the outside it looks like it's working. Inside, it's more like this:

  • You're still thinking about clients hours after you finished

  • You make decisions because you're scared of losing money, momentum or approval

  • The business gets more of you, and the life it was meant to pay for gets less

  • You're away from work but never really away from it

  • You keep assuming the fix is more discipline, a tighter routine, another system

You probably don't need to work harder.

You need to make sense of the business you've built and the person who runs it.

THE ARÊTE PROGRAMME

Your business should challenge you.
It shouldn't control you.

You're good at the work. But the business got built around always being available, always over-delivering, and you doing everything yourself.

It works. It's just exhausting, and it gets harder to keep up the bigger it gets.

One client leaves and the whole thing feels unstable. A quiet sales week changes how you see yourself. You swing between going flat out and hiding. Visibility, uncertainty and a client not getting results all feel far more personal than they should.

Arête is private one-to-one work for established online coaches. We work on the patterns driving all that, and on the business those patterns built. Boundaries, delivery, workload, pricing, how visible you are.

It's not more business strategy. It's building the business around what you're actually good at, so you can grow it without running yourself into the ground.

XANDER CONNABEER

I'm interested in the part of performance most business advice leaves untouched.

I’m a coach and NCH registered cognitive hypnotherapist, currently completing my Master Practitioner qualification in NLP. I also hold a degree in sport and exercise science from Exeter University and have been coaching for eleven years.

Before that I played rugby professionally and earned three international caps. So I know what it's like to have your performance judged in public, and what that does to the way you make decisions.

Most of the coaches I work with don’t need another strategy. Knowledge was never the problem. Usually they've built a business out of processes they picked up from three or four different mentors, and it works, technically. It just doesn't suit them. So we find out what's actually going on, and rebuild the business around it.
